Website Analytics – What can you learn from it?
All about Website Analytics
Whatever is worth doing is worth measuring. Your website is no exception. Whatever be your field of activity or business, you will find that there is absolutely no dearth of websites that claim to be experts in that field of business or knowledge domain. In such a tough and competing environment, the quality of your website is the ONLY aspect that will ensure that you and your business standout.
For the purpose of this article let me state that the definition of Quality is meet the expectations of your target audience. Going by this definition, measuring quality means measuring the number of people who used the website in a productive way.
Note that we are not saying that we wish to “measure the number of ‘hits’” to the website or we not saying “measure the number of page views” . What we are interested is probably the number of unique visitors or repeat visitors who spent some reasonable time on some content on our website. If they spent some significant amount of time, then there is a good chance that they found it useful. The even better metric that we would like to see is the conversion, which is essentially the business goal, but I will come to that in a few minutes.
Begin with the end in mind
As I mentioned just now, the objective of every business is to succeed. Your business might be your website or you may be using your website as part of your marketing activity. Whatever be the case you should have a certain target in mind when you start your website. Setting such a target will help you focus your attention to the key aspects of your website.
Setting a target will allow you to compare your current standing and the amount of distance to be covered to reach that target. The correction to be made will depend on what you can make out of the analytics that you are able to generate out of your website.
